Kate
Moss To Launch Topshop
US
Invasion
Kate
Moss
is to head a major move
by Sir Philip Green to
launch the Topshop brand
in the United States.
Sir
Philip has formed an
agreement with the
iconic US department
store Barneys to sell
the supermodel's
forthcoming clothing
range at 19 stores
across the country.
The
91-line range is being
released in the UK at
the beginning of next
month and will then be
launched at Barneys'
flagship Madison Avenue
store on May 8.
Sir
Philip said that the
move was the "ultimate
test" for the fashion
retailer, which has seen
its popularity soar in
the UK in recent years.
The
Kate Moss clothing range
starts at about £10
for a vest, rising to
£200 for a soft
leather jacket.
The
move comes as Topshop
plans a major expansion
programme for the group,
which currently has 303
stores in the UK and 97
overseas, but has yet to
enter the American
market.
Topshop,
part of the Arcadia
group including Dorothy
Perkins and Miss
Selfridge, caused
controversy when it
recruited Kate Moss to
design a fashion line.
The
appointment coincided
with the departure of
fashion director Jane
Shepherdson, sparking
speculation that she was
unhappy with the group's
decision to hire the
supermodel. However, she
denied the rumours and
said she had played an
active roll in hiring
Kate Moss.
Elsewhere,
department store chain
House of Fraser is said
to be looking into
establishing a chain of
smaller high street
stores. The Observer
said the plans were at
an early stage but that
it was actively seeking
locations.
