First
Deal Or No Deal Jackpot
Is Won
The
£250,000 jackpot
has been won for the
first time on the
British version of Deal
or No Deal, the
television quiz
presented by
Noel
Edmonds.
Contestant
Laura Pearce worked her
way through the 22
identical, sealed boxes
and picked the one
holding the
prize.
"I
was just in shock for
days later. It was a
great feeling," said the
24-year-old, who was
born in South Wales but
lives in
Gloucester.
"All
these streamers came
down from the ceiling
and these rockets went
off, and I was quite
shocked," Ms Pearce
said.
"I
think I remember all my
fellow contestants
coming towards me, and I
just jumped out of my
chair. I think I cried
at some point as
well."
Deal
or No Deal is seen in
about 40 countries
around the world, and
was created by
production company
Endemol, which is also
responsible for
Big
Brother.
In
the UK, the quiz has
helped to revive the
career of
Edmonds.
He
was once a
BBC
Radio
1 breakfast show DJ and
has hosted programmes
such as The
Multi-Coloured Swap Shop
and Noel's House
Party.
But
his appearances on Deal
or No Deal - during
which he discusses
tactics during telephone
conversations with an
anonymous figure known
as The Banker - have
earned him a National
Television Award in the
past year.
And
the 58-year-old was also
nominated for a Bafta TV
Award in
2006.
