Marlon
Brando's Carer Settles
Court
Case
A
woman who was
Marlon
Brando's
carer in his final years
has agreed to settle a
court case with the
actor's estate, for a
reported $125,000
(£64,280).
Angela
Borlaza had claimed she
was a victim of fraud,
deceit as well as a
broken oral contract.
She had originally
wanted $2m
(£1.02m).
She
accused the executors of
Brando's will of
changing it just 13 days
before his death in July
2004.
Ms
Borlaza said they had
wrested power from the
actor's longtime
advisers.
She
told a court that Marlon
Brando was too ill to
sign anything and
suggested his signature
was forged. She also
alleged the co-executors
had wrongly evicted her
from the home Brando had
bought for her in the
San Fernando
Valley.
Ms
Borlaza had sought
proceeds from the sale
of the home and
$2million in punitive
damages.
She
agreed through mediation
to settle all claims for
$125,000,
(£64,280).
Joel
Pipes, an attorney for
Borlaza, declined to
discuss the terms of the
settlement, saying the
parties resolved the
matter
amicably.
Brando
estate lawyer Charles
Larson also declined to
comment.
Ms
Borlaza said in the
lawsuit she was hired in
1995 as Brando's cook
and eventually became
his personal
assistant.
Marlon
Brando died of lung
failure in Los Angeles
at age 80. His estate is
said to be worth more
than $20 million
(£15.3
million).
She
had sued producer Mike
Medavoy and fellow
executors Larry J
Dressler and Avra
Douglas.
