Ricky
Gervais Beats Rocky At
Box
Office
Ricky
Gervais
has beaten Rocky to the
top of the US box
office.
Night
At The Museum, the
comedy in which Gervais
co-stars with Ben
Stiller, took 42 million
dollars (£21m) over
the four-day Christmas
holiday.
Ricky
Gervais plays the
director of a museum in
which the exhibits come
to life.
The
role is set to make him
a major big screen star
in the US where he is
already known to TV
audiences thanks to The
Office.
Will
Smith's film The Pursuit
of Happyness was second
with £22.5
million.
Rocky
Balboa, the sixth outing
for Sylvester Stallone's
boxing champ, was third
with takings of 17
million dollars
(£8.5m).
Stallone
was ridiculed for
reviving the franchise
at the age of
60.
But
the film, which sees the
ageing prize-fighter
come out of retirement
for one last bout, is on
course to recoup its 24
million dollar budget in
its first
week.
It
is released in the UK on
January 19,
2007.
