Pete
Doherty Voted Leading
Anti-Icon
Pete
Doherty
has been voted the most
"undeserving icon" of
the year in a men's
magazine
survey.
Some
1,000 readers of
Arena
Magazine
voted the Babyshambles
singer, 27, as the
personality least worthy
of their celebrity
status in an online
poll.
Pete
Doherty is rarely out of
the headlines thanks to
his high-profile
relationship with model
Kate
Moss
and his battle against
drug
addiction.
Comedian
and radio presenter
Russell Brand came
second in the list.
Readers said Brand's
status was
over-hyped.
Syed
Ahmed, contestant on BBC
Two series The
Apprentice, came
third.
The
other celebrites listed
in the top ten included
film star
Tom
Cruise,
chef Gordon
Ramsey,
Razorlight frontman
Johnny Borrell, comedian
Jimmy Carr and
Bob
Geldof's
daughter
Peaches.
"We
asked our readers to
pick those people who
have consumed the
headlines and defined
the last year for all
the wrong reasons," said
Arena editor William
Drew.
"Pete
Doherty was voted the
anti-icon of the year
with 38% of the vote
thanks to his drug habit
which has popularised
junkie chic and earned
him an almost cult
following. This comes
despite overwhelmingly
mediocre music and less
than inspiring live
performances," he
added.
