Sienna Miller Leads AngloMania Celebration

The Brits have hit Manhattan for a huge party celebrating their style, led by homegrown fashion icon Sienna Miller.

The 24-year-old actress took to the red carpet on Monday night as a co-chair of the AngloMania ball, wearing a gold sequinned minidress by Burberry.

The star-studded Costume Institute Gala was the opening event for a new exhibition celebrating British design at New York's prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Art. The flamboyant show, made up of themed rooms including a Hunt Ball and a Gentleman's Club, is the latest example of the city's growing obsession with all things from across the pond.

Celebrities from the UK including Liz Hurley, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell put on their glad rags for the lavish event. The Americans were represented by A-listers including Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker and Richard Gere. The British-born editor of American Vogue, Anna Wintour, swept in first.

Sienna Miller, who teamed her glittering frock with opaque black tights and wore her hair tied back in a simple ponytail, shared the limelight with Christopher Bailey, the creative director of Burberry. He and Wintour were the starlet's fellow co-chairs. The fashion house and Vogue publisher Conde Nast have sponsored the exhibition.

Campbell, in a pale gold gown, arrived with Andre Leon Talley, editor-at-large of Vogue. Kate Moss wore a sharp fitted black jacket and skin-tight satin trousers, her hair pulled back elegantly.

Also in attendance were actresses Lindsay Lohan and Drew Barrymore, billionaire businessman Donald Trump, goth rocker Marilyn Manson and models Linda Evangelista and Gisele Bundchen. British catwalk stars Erin O'Connor and young Lily Cole were there too, together with Victoria Beckham, who wore a flouncy red number by Roland Mouret.

O'Connor was accompanied by designer Matthew Williamson, who made her floor length rose-strewn gown in pink hues. "Fashion is so powerful in London," O'Connor said. "Some of the best designers in the world start there and then flourish across the world."

Sex and the City star Parker's designer partner was Alexander McQueen, who dressed her in a tartan one shouldered prom dress. Manson also had praise for the British fashion scene. "I think the UK has the greatest sense of history when it comes to style," he said.

Sex Pistols star Johnny Rotten - real name John Lydon - who recorded a podcast commentary for the exhibition, nonchalantly told reporters: "The thing about this occasion tonight is that it's more than likely based on everything I've ever done."
