Charlotte
Church's Discs Stolen By
Drunk
A young
man has blamed a "moment of madness" while
drunk for stealing four gold discs
belonging to Charlotte Church from her
parents' hotel.
Leighton
Price, 18, broke into the Church Hotel in
Pontcanna, Cardiff, after drinking seven
cans of lager.
Magistrates
heard he took the discs off the walls, and
tried to take a fifth, but returned them
in a carrier bag within 48 hours after a
police appeal.
Price,
of Grangetown, Cardiff, admitted burglary
and sentencing was adjourned.
Cardiff
Magistrates' court was told Price went
into the hotel on Cathedral Road on the
night of 5 February through an unlocked
door while drunk.
He
pulled four of the classical-turned-pop
singer's gold discs from the wall, and
tried to prise free a fifth, but fled when
he failed to removed it.
Police
took Price's fingerprints from the
remaining disc and were able to trace him
from a previous caution, although he had
no criminal record, the court
heard.
His
solicitor Carol Anthony said Price
returned the four discs, placing them in
carrier bag outside the hotel, within 48
hours of removing them.
"When he
sobered up, he realised what he had done
and he did his best to put it right," she
told the court.
"He even
rang the hotel, anonymously, to make sure
nobody else found them."
She
added: "It was a moment of madness that
wouldn't have happened had it not been for
the amount he had drunk."
Price
was released on conditional bail until 10
March 2006.
Church's
mother Maria and stepfather James took
over the guesthouse in 2003.
