British
Officials Visit Gary
Glitter
UK
officials in Vietnam have visited former
glam rock star Gary Glitter after his
arrest on child sex charges.
He has
been held on suspicion of "lewd acts" with
children after an arrest warrant was
issued last week.
British
consular officials saw Glitter, whose real
name is Paul Francis Gadd, in the coastal
town of Vung Tau, his home for the past
six months.
He was
stopped at Ho Chi Minh City airport on
Saturday by an official who recognised him
from media coverage.
A
Vietnamese foreign ministry spokesman said
authorities had interviewed a 15-year-old
girl they had found at his
home.
British
officials confirmed that Glitter, 61,
would have access to a lawyer.
They
described the Vietnamese authorities as
very co-operative.
If
convicted he could be jailed for up to 12
years.
Police
earlier said Glitter was allegedly
involved with two girls under the age of
18, but declined to elaborate.
He was
found guilty in the UK in 1999 of
possessing child pornography and served
two months in jail.
